VALERIE HARPER SAYS SAG PRESIDENT IS AN ALIEN.
 |
| No, this is not the Joker
from
Batman, this is Ms. Harper. |
Valerie Harper stated yesterday that the newly elected Screen Actor's
Guild (SAG) President is ineligible for the post as she is an alien. In
a bizarre twist to an already bizarre election, losing presidential candidate
Valerie Harper stated she should assume the Presidency of the Screen Actor's
Guild as the newly elected President, Melissa Gilbert, is an
"alien." The former star of the "Rhoda" and "Mary
Tyler More" shows was heard to babble that, "She is a human infested
by a alien mind and is only a Shadow of herself. She must be removed!
" We can not confirm
that she has shown up at Melissa's home yelling for her husband, Bruce
Boxleitner, and begging, "Sheridan nuke The Shadows !" In
the conference, Harper continued by explaining that SAG rules only allow human
members or humans who play aliens; aliens who play humans are not allowed.
This point was questioned by
other members:

Alf : "You mean I am not a
SAG member?"
Shirley MacLaine : "As one
who once was an alien and channels multiple non-human personalities, we
object."
Kermit : "You have heard of
kissing a frog? The witch can kiss my little green ______ !"
Valerie
Harper is not new to controversy. The actress of often caustic
characters has found many a advisary.
She was fired by Lorimar from her NBC TV-Series
"Valerie" in 1987 after she didn't show for filming. Subsequently,
her character was killed off, she was replaced with affable Sandy Duncan,
and the series was renamed as "Valerie's Family." The irate Harper took
the issue to court.
Once again she finds herself in
controversy, this time she is contesting her loss as President of SAG. As
a member of the group "Actors Moving Forward," she has attacked Melissa
Gilbert and the election.
Melissa Gilbert, among her many
characters, played opposite her husband, Bruce Boxleitner, in Babylon 5 as
"Anna Sheridan," a human whose personality was replaced by aliens known
as "The Shadows."
Only the shrinks will know if Ms.
Harper has finally blown a gasket. In
a related note, the last thing we heard was the team of white coats explaining to the
animated actress the difference between "characters" and "actors" who
play them. It did not appear to be going well.
