On the Station Rastenn and fellow trainee Tannier were given leave to explore Babylon 5. Reaching Down Below the two heard a woman’s screams. Rastenn was reluctant to interfere, saying they shouldn’t get involved. When Tannier disagreed and rushed towards the sound, Rastenn left Tannier alone. Tannier was later found beaten and unconscious.

Sech Turval helped Rastenn deal with the choice he had made. Rastenn said that had not wanted to risk death for something trivial or stupid. He did not want to die without meaning. Turval told him that what might seem trivial could have unknown importance, and that this was the greatest truth: "Your death will have meaning if it comes while in fullest pursuit of your heart."
